In this lesson you’ll get access to the free student version of the Biosignal Platform and ensure your system meets the minimum technical requirements. Once you finish, you should have the software installed and ready to run a trial.

As part of the KreaTech Erasmus+ project, Cinematronic offers the Biosignal Platform to students from film, media education, and related fields, free of charge and open access.
To request free access, please use your official university email address to submit your request to . Once your request is confirmed, you will receive a license key and a download link, which you will need to use to install and activate the software.
Alternatively, you can download the software directly from the Microsoft store and follow the instruction for license activation.

The Cinematronic Biosignal Platform is also available on the Microsoft Store on Widnows
The software is built for Windows and has specific technical requirements. Your computer must have
The platform also depends on external devices. For physiological data, the supported unit is the Shimmer3 GSR+ sensor, which measures galvanic skin response (GSR) and derives heart rate (HR) from photoplethysmography (PPG). For eye tracking, you can use any modern webcam that records at a resolution of at least 720p at 60 frames per second. More important than resolution is the field of view: a narrow angle of 50–80° gives the most accurate tracking of both eyes and head position.
Don't worry if terms like GSR and PPG sound unfamiliar for now. These describe the types of biosignals that the platform can measure, and we will examine them in detail later in the course. For the moment, all you need to know is that the software and sensors work together to record how viewers respond physically while watching a film.
When your system is ready, you can download the software directly from the Microsoft Store from the link sent to your school email. On the first run, the program will prompt you to enter your license key. Ensure you are connected to the internet, as the software verifies your key online. After activation, the main interface will open. From this point on, the license check happens automatically each time you start the program; you only need to re-enter the code if your license has expired.
NOTE:
If you intend to use eye tracking, you will also need the Beam Eye Tracker software. Beam is a separate commercial product and is not provided by Cinematronic. As such, it is not part of the open-access student version. If you already have a license for Beam, the Cinematronic Biosignal Platform can automatically connect to it once Beam is installed and running in the background. Calibration and setup of the Beam add-on will be explained later in the course, but it remains optional for students who do not have access to the software.
